Protocol for birthday party
We are having a birthday party for our soon-to-be 6 year old son. It is his first big party. My question has to do with presents. My son has been to a few parties where the gift-opening is a little over the top and unbearable, sometimes taking well over an hour. While I would prefer to not have gifts brought at all, my husband feels like we should allow gifts since this is our son's first big party. So my question is whether or not it would be rude to just have him open gifts after the kids have left? I don't want to be rude and maybe little kids enjoy watching their gift being opened? I am just curious what other parents think. Thanks.

Re: Protocol for birthday party
Perhaps you could have him open the presents just as each kid arrives and gives him their gift. That way each kid gets to see him open their gift, he can thank them personally right away, and there's no "big show" the kids have to sit through. (And no hurt feelings either if one gift is "cooler" than another.)
Hope this helps!
