Recycle your old athletic shoes
I saw this today and thought I would post it in case others are interested.
It is from: http://illinoishomepage.net/content/reuseashoe/
Reuse-A-Shoe is making its way to central Illinois, April 11th! You can donate your worn-out athletic shoes between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. at any of the following locations:
WCIA studio on Neil Street in Champaign
Iroquois Federal on North Gilbert street in Danville
WCIA office on West Edwards in Springfield.
Reuse-A-Shoe is one of Nike's longest-running environmental programs where worn-out athletic shoes of any brand are collected and recycled into material used in sports surfaces. That means, those sneakers in your closet could become basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, running tracks and playgrounds for young people around the world.
Since the birth of Reuse-A-Shoe, Nike has recycled more than 20 million pairs of athletic shoes and created more than 250 sport surfaces; giving thousands of young people access to new playgrounds and athletic facilities around the world.
I have also heard that SHS students can turn in shoes from April 7th to 10th before school. They will get put in a drawing for a prize.
