Early Riser! Empty Early Riser!

Post by bam920 Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:46 am

My son has always been an early riser.....I had resigned myself to getting up at 6 a.m.

But now that he can climb out of his crib....if he happens to have a night-waking (say 4 a.m.) instead of putting himself back to sleep he gets up! Out of his crib he goes and comes into get mom and dad up.

We have tried letting him come to bed with us....but he has never been a snuggler or slept in our bed. He just wants to get up and play.

We have tried repeatedly putting him back in his crib. Telling him it is night night....it is still dark.....etc etc. But he just keeps climbing out.

So here I am at 530 a.m. We have been up since 4 basically. Anyone have any ideas?

We are getting the "big boy bed" this weekend...........but I fear it will get even WORSE!!

Our son was like that too. We just told him he couldn't get up until the sun got up. It took a couple nights of "reminding him" and putting him back to bed. But he got the idea. Works great in the winter....not quite as well in the summer when the sun wakes up earlier. Now he's 5 and will occasionally sleep until 7 or so on the weekends (we're all up by 6 on weekdays), but then he comes in and reminds us that "the sun is up so get up!!"

Early Riser! Empty Your early riser

We've got one of those too, and it's maddening! She'd wake up singing at 6:00 a.m. which made me cranky, especially on the weekends. My husband couldn't believe I'd be growling at her singing "Jesus Loves Me" at 6:00 in the morning, but I did!

The big boy bed will help actually. It is a privilege to have a big boy bed, so just really enforce the idea that if he's going to have one, he has to stay in it until the set time. Perhaps a radio alarm clock would help. When the music goes off, he's allowed to come out of his room.

Good luck. This is a tough one. We also started threatening to take away things like favorite videos for the week, etc. That seemed to help as well.
